When to Replace your Caya Diaphragm

Q: Hi Tracey,
I’ve been happily using my Caya for a year now
How often would you recommend the diaphragm be replaced ?
Thanks so much
P.

A: The Caya diaphragm is a form of non-hormonal contraception that is designed to be used for up to two years. However, it is important to inspect your diaphragm regularly to ensure it is still in good condition.

You should replace your Caya diaphragm when:

* It has been two years since you started using it.
* It has been damaged, such as by a tear, puncture, or distortion.
* In addition to these reasons, it is also recommended that you replace your Caya diaphragm if you have had a vaginal infection or sexually transmitted infection (STI), because certain conditions and/or treatments can damage the material and reduce its effectiveness.

After 2 years, the nylon ring inside Caya can lose its “bounce back,” which can make it not fit properly or stay in place, making it less effective. This is why you need to replace your Caya Diaphragm if:
* It no longer fits properly or is uncomfortable to use.
* You have experienced a significant change in your weight, which could affect the fit of the diaphragm.
* You have had a pelvic surgery, which could have changed the shape of your vagina.

Write the date of first-use on the box, or put a note in your calendar to order a new one earlier than 2 years from the first-use date.

Because of the ageing of the nylon ring, any Caya diaphragm older than 2 years, no matter how often it was used, should be discarded.

It is important to remember that the Caya diaphragm should not be used during menstruation or if you have recently given birth. Always consult with your healthcare provider if you have any concerns about your Caya diaphragm or if you think you may need a replacement.
