OVERVIEW
Matcha is harvested from the Camellia sinensis, same as green tea. However, the way it is grown is different which gives it an enhanced nutrient profile.
Farmers cover the plants 20-30 days before harvest to avoid sunlight. This produces a darker green plant which upon harvest, is ground to a fine powder. With this altered process, the resulting matcha tea contains more caffeine and antioxidants than regular green tea.
Matcha can contribute to the prevention and control of heart disease, diabetes and cancer. It can boost metabolism which promotes weight loss and helps with memory and concentration. Finally, it is a powerful detoxifying agent capable of removing metals and toxins from the body.
