Ingredients: water aqua, ** ***sunflower seed Helianthus annus oil, non-nano zinc oxide USP #1, *cocoa Theobroma cacao seed butter, ** ***beeswax Cera alba, sodium borate USP #1, natural vitamin E mixed tocopherols.
*Fair Trade Certified **Organically grown ***Local Ontario

Cold-pressed Ontario sunflower seed oil provides up to SPF 15 protection and contains Vitamins A (Beta carotene), B1, B2, D, and E to nourish the skin.

Soothing zinc works like a layer of tiny reflectors to provide 28+ times the skin's natural protection against harmful UVA & UVB rays. The 325M size of the zinc particles will not penetrate the skin, unlike the nano-particles used in so-called "invisible" sunscreens. Learn more about zinc oxide.

Cocoa butter is traditionally used to heal and moisturize skin that has been exposed to the elements, and to prepare the skin to make essential vitamin D in the sun. Cocoa Butter contains natural antioxidants that prevent rancidity.

Natural, pure, unbleached beeswax adds protection by keeping the sunscreen on the surface of your skin, and provides some resistance to loss from swimming and perspiration.

Sodium borate aka USP medical-grade borax is a natural mineral salt common in cosmetics and foods - used here in a tiny 2.541% concentration to emulsify the beeswax. Borax is potentially irritating only in concentrations of >5% and on broken skin.

Full spectrum natural Vitamin E plays a crucial role in protecting skin cells and membranes from environmental damage, and in continuously repairing oxidative damage. This protection extends to stopping damage to the skin from UV rays, pollutants and aging.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE: Apply to all exposed and unbroken skin every 2 hours, especially between 10am and 3pm, and after swimming or perspiring. Apply a generous amount so that the skin appears white, then rub in until the whiteness disappears. Follow common sense precautions in full sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and finding shade if the skin reddens.

CAUTIONS: Do not use on broken or irritated skin. While the ingredients are generally non-toxic and non-irritant, sensitization or allergy can occur. Be aware that overheated skin can develop heat rash, even with a layer of zinc sunscreen. Reapply and seek shade. If you have sensitive or allergy-prone skin, please test the cream on the inside of your elbow - as you should with all new products - and report any reactions to me. In case of a reaction, you can return the cream to me for replacement with a more suitable sunscreen.

TEXTURE CHANGES: Changes in humidity and temperature can cause changes in the texture of the cream, or liquid to form on the surface. These changes do not affect the performance of the sunscreen and do not signify spoilage. Just pour off any liquid that forms. The cream will perform as well or better! OR very very gently heat it and remix, pouring it back into the jar quickly before it sets.

Learn why zinc is healthy but titanium is not.

NEW We can't refill creams because they set in the jar, so we will exchange your empty, clean jar for a new full one and give you $1 or more refill discount. Please wash the jar by hand before returning. Zinc, beeswax and aluminum will behave badly in any dishwashing machine!

SHIPPING? 100 and 200g Will be posted aluminum screw top canisters by default.
You may specify glass in the comments with your order but please be prepared to pay $2-$10 for shipping.

#1 traceytf : nano particles

from the man who cycled across Canada safely using Safe Sun Protection Cream:

"Just stumbled upon this article from MIT, and remembered your reluctance
to use nanoparticles in e.g. your sunscreen due to their unknown safety
profile. Well it looks like their safety profile is now known, and you
can replace your speculation with some nice solid citations:

and because I know you're busy, here's the refereed journal article

#3 traceytf : What Red Said...

Hi Tracey,

I thought I would drop you a line regarding the sunscreen you taught us to make. I have made both versions (one without zinc oxide and one with zinc oxide). To be honest when I first made them, my husband chuckled. In fact he thought I lost it! So...both my daughter and I have been using the formulations you've taught religiously and we have not been burned. However today it was really put to the test as we went to the Bread & Honey Festival out here in Mississauga. We were out there the entire day. We used the formula with the zinc oxide and we were protected. We did not burn one little bit. My husband however is now the shade of a lobster and he's hurting. He now thinks I'm brilliant

Many thanks,

Marnie

#4 bd : Protects very well!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first tried this product. I was pleasantly surprised how well it protects my skin. I put it on every day, and it's been excellent at protecting me from the sun. Feels great, knowing that I'm protected from the sun and can do so without using harmful chemicals found in commercially produced sunscreens.
