After camp 2015, our organizing team grew to 12 organizers. We realized that our work together starts with camp, but also expands into more in-depth projects including visions for our own school, wellness center, community center, creative commons, and eventually, our own rural learning village. So, we formed Conscious Minds Co-op - a not-for-profit democratic business that all campers have an opportunity to join.

The camp is the heart of CMCo-op. At Conscious Minds Camp youth develop visions and strategies for a better world; in Conscious Minds Co-op youth enact those visions.

To cultivate healthy and resilient communities

Where youth are connected to urban and rural peers, earth and elders, critical and creative ways of thinking, and innovative ways of living

To create a path forward, for all of us

Conscious Minds Camp is run by the directors of the Conscious Minds Co-op. The camp organizing team consists of at least 80% youth (13-29), and all organizers must have attended at least one year of camp. Just like in camp, we practice collaborative leadership. We integrate the models of Consensus decision-making and Holacracy to make sure that everyone has opportunity and support to contribute, everyone has a say in decisions that affect them, and we keep things moving.

CMCo-op has an extensive decision-making and conflict resolution policy that is continually being improved on. We also have set roles, such as Coordinators, Circle Leads, and Self-Development coaches that rotate on a seasonal or yearly basis. We are very proud of our organizing structure, and if you would like a copy of our Terms of Engagement, you can email us at We are happy to share.
