Lemon Balm Melissa Officinalis: A soothing skin toner, and a remarkable anti-viral, helping to calm even the most sensitive skin. The floral water and hydrosol have similar properties to the essential oil and herb.
This true hydrosol is from Ontario, Canada.
Description: Melissa leaf, commonly known as lemon balm, comes from a sweet-smelling, bushy herb that grows up to 90 cm high with serrated leaves and tiny white or pink flowers. The high price of Melissa products is due to the fact that approximately 3 tonnes of plant material is required in order to produce approximately 500 ml / 16.66 fl. Oz of essential oil.
Common Uses: Melissa Leaf is well known for its anti-depressant and uplifting properties. It is also reported to have uses as an antispasmodic, bactericidal, carminative, cordial, diaphoretic, nervine, sedative, stomachic, sudorific, and tonic.
Aroma: Melissa has a warm and radiant scent reminiscent of Lemons.
History: Melissa comes from the Greek for 'Honey Bee'. It was used to give comfort and drive away sadness. Current aromatherapists tend to make the same claim, though they caution that consumers must be careful to purchase authentic Melissa Leaf essential oil rather than 'nature identical' varieties sold at a fraction of the normal cost..
True hydrosols, as aromatherapists call them, are the waters that emerge from the distillation of essential oils. These contain the lightest, wateriest parts of the plants' essence.
Floral waters are made by driving the essential oil through purified water.
Flower waters are extremely versatile. They can be used anywhere that water is required. They are an excellent linen spray, and a simple, safe way for the novice aromatherapist to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of essential oils.
